SANDAG Board Votes to Lower SBX Tolls
In a first-in-the-nation action by a public toll road operator, the San Diego Association of Governments Board of Directors unanimously voted on May 25 to authorize an across-the-board reduction in tolls on the South Bay Expressway. It will take approximately one month to implement the toll reductions.
The plan will cut tolls for all trips. The new, lower tolls will range from 50 cents to $2.75 for FasTrak users and from $2 to $3.50 for cash and credit card users. The plan also will reduce the monthly minimum toll amount from $7 down to $3.50 per account plus $1 per transponder.
Important Information about our Customer Service Center...
In observance of Memorial Day, our Customer Service Center will be closed on Monday, May 28. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 29, 2011.
Also note that there will be no Toll Attendants on duty at the Otay Mesa Toll Plaza on Memorial Day. Cash paying travelers should note that Automated Cash Machines take exact change only, so please plan accordingly.
Notice of Merchant Name Change for SBX
Customers will notice a new merchant name on your bank and credit card statements. Transactions will now say "SANDAG/SR-125". The same details will be shown for customers who use credit cards for trips at the automated credit card machines and those who use Pay-by-Plate. Thank you for being a South Bay Expressway customer. SANDAG new operator of the SR 125 toll road
The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has purchased the lease to operate the South Bay Expressway, and is the new operator of the facility as of December 22, 2011. During the next few months, users should not notice any change in the operations of the toll road, and FasTrak customers do not need to make any changes to their account. In the coming months, the SANDAG Board expects to begin a process of lowering the tolls on the facility. REDUCED TOLLS FOR BIG RIGS AND CASH/CREDIT CUSTOMERS AT THE OTAY MESA TOLL PLAZA TO CONTINUE
Last February, we announced a three month promotion; lowering tolls for cash and credit card -paying customers on trips beginning or ending at the Otay Mesa Toll Plaza. We also lowered tolls for all trips on SBX for big rigs (5-plus axle vehicles) during the promotional period. We are pleased to announce that based on customer response, we have decided to continue with reduced tolls for these trips. Beginning June 1, 2011, cash and credit card tolls at the Otay Mesa Toll Plaza will be $4.00 per trip, which is 50¢ per trip less than the pre-promotion $4.50 per trip toll.
